Hurricane Island Center for

Science & Leadership

+ About

Twelve miles off the coast of Rockland, Maine, Hurricane Island has been defined by its history of quarrymen from the 1800’s and then Outward-Bound adventurers of the 1960’s-2020’s. Today, scientists, researcher and educators are teaching students of all ages about the island’s unique ecosystem. The activities help shape leadership skills for confronting future environmental challenges. We bring the ongoing research and learning to life for students and financial supporters.

+ Inspiring students to take on environmental challenges

To support Hurricane Island’s mission and strengthen engagement with donors, partners, and the broader community, CD+M has partnered with the organization to develop annual reports, fundraising collateral, and other branded communications. Each piece is designed to clearly communicate the organization’s impact while celebrating the people, programs, and scientific discoveries that make Hurricane Island unique.

Our work brings complex stories to life through compelling design, thoughtful storytelling, and engaging data visualization. From highlighting marine science research and educational programming to showcasing donor impact and organizational growth, these materials help Hurricane Island demonstrate measurable outcomes while reinforcing its position as a leader in experiential science education and coastal conservation.

By creating communications that are both informative and inspiring, we help Hurricane Island strengthen relationships with supporters, advance its fundraising goals, and continue expanding opportunities for hands-on science education throughout Maine and beyond.
